Instead of riding the mower to the gas station, run or jog to the gas station, cup your hands and have someone dispense gas into your cupped hands until your hands are full of gas. Then run back home and put the gas into the mower. Repeat this process until the mower’s tank is full.

Can I suggest that you try local sources instead of the internet for your used part. I have repaired my own mowers and I have never had a problem finding used parts. You just go to a lawn mower repair place and ask them if they will let you look through their junk pile. Below is a yellow pages link to multitudes of repair place in N.C.. The burlap thing, why not just make your own. Burlap is cheap and you could just hot glue it on to the old frame.
Go to your nearest John Deere dealership. However, if the replacement parts are not available or too pricey, you may need to get rid of the toy and get a new one.
